A quick sneak peek at how I envision my work at the show.. although imagine this times 20!
I can’t believe I’m done. It was a real pain getting 100 images onto my boards, but I’ve somehow done it. I’m really sad to see it all finished, and the fact that after tomorrow I’ll no longer be a student.
I’m carrying on my project though over at http://lyricaday.tumblr.com

99 Luftballons - Nena
Redraw of this.
I’m liking this a whole lot better. There is a nice flow to the image thanks to the way the type starts at the bottom and ends at the top. Also, I feel the simplicity means that it could easily be applied to different places, such as a balloon sticker or a t-shirt.

Pure Morning - Placebo
Re-shoot of this.
After doing the original stencil of this, Tash mentioned to have it made out of Rizla. So, I gave it a go and this was produced.
However, I got the wrong type of Rizla (I don’t smoke so I’m a bit clueless) and ended up getting the ‘Slim’ kind.. so that’s why it’s so transparent.
I tried photographing on different backgrounds and hated them all until I tried the black. It really makes the letters pop and because of the transparency of the paper, the letters had a bit of a mind of their own.. so some are more readable than others. But I think that you can still figure out what the line says.

Kiwi - Maroon 5
Reshoot of this.
Another re-shoot.
I prefer this one, a whole lot better than the original one I did. I even left all the juice that came out whilst cutting the kiwi on the acetate I used over my wording.
I’m in the process of editing all of my imagery. I’ve done 90 in the past few days, so only 10 to go but a lot of those are ones that I want to re-draw so they may take a bit longer than I had anticipated. None the less, I’m enjoying it. A little mind numbing at times (I’ve been dreaming about doing it in my sleep!) but I can’t wait for this to be all handed in and seeing them printed properly.
Alison Carmichael
She is most known for her ‘cunt’ poster, stating that “words look much nicer when they’re hand lettered” which was a little bit of an inspiration for the “Fuck You like an animal” piece I did by Nine Inch Nails.
Anyway, after looking through her stuff last night, I found this image and I thought about using it as inspiration for a piece I’m wanting to re-draw - 99 red balloons.
I feel it’ll work really nicely for the lyrics I’ve used. I just hope I can make something as nice as this!
So, I was in the photography studio - mostly to re-shoot my stencil work, so that I could play with shadows and see what can be created.
BUT
I loved my True Blood shoot (model was Emma Williams..) so much that all I’ve been doing since is editing photo’s. As you can see from the first shots.. those are me. They aren’t brilliant as it’s hard drawing on yourself and I had to do it with paint. And, I only have a digi cam.. so, in the studio today I had proper theatre blood and a digital SLR.
I did buy fangs.. but we couldn’t get them to work so I’ve photoshopped the ones in the second image.
I’ve had so much fun doing these and I’m glad with how they’ve come out. I’m just not sure which one to choose for my final/printing.
So, at the minute I’m in the process of re-designing/editing my lyrics ready for print. I’ve done a total of 10.. only 90 left to go!
I’m unsure on whether to add textures to the prints or not, which is why I’ve printed some mock ups. Apologies for the poor photo, my camera is charging for my photoshoot tomorrow..
Anyways, I do like them without the textures on them.. but I’m kinda itching to see them with textures too as I feel they add depth. Even if it’s just a screen print texture. I shall have to see what looks best, but I’m out of ink at the minute so i’ll have to wait till Monday.
I’m going to be selling some at the show I think.. postcards that is. Although, after a tutorial today I’ve got a few new ideas for them including badges, greeting cards, tea towels, coasters etc etc. These really are easy to apply to anything. So it shall be fun to see what I can come up with!
lyricaday:
Digital Love - Daft Punk
99
I wanted to create something very basic for this, but still effective.

Glamour Puss - KT Tunstall

My last one for this project.
I feel it was too similar to the Lady Gaga piece I did previously (Put your paws up) with the cat reference, but I was unsure how to illustrate this without it being a cat! Obviously I was thinking too literal.
But, I have to say, I love the colours in this. I’m not sure about the shapes and letters created but the colours are lovely. I feel I was trying TOO hard to create the cat reference which comes across especially in the word ‘puss’.

So, Emma pointed me to this website. A similar sort of thing, people submit quotes or lines and this guy illustrates them. Obviously, you can tell that there is a style that flows throughout the set that he’s created so far. I wish my work had a style that you could easily tell that it was a ‘Charlotte Horsfall’ so to speak but I’m not sure if it’s there.
I really do love the intricacy in some of these images, and I obviously still favour ascenders and descenders that flow into one another. Unfortunately I’ve not mastered that yet but I love to look at it. There are a lot of decorative accents, (swirly bits) in this work, which I’ve noticed I lack in my own. It seems to break up the work into sections. Maybe with some of the re-do’s I’m doing, I’ll add some in.
I’m still developing and learning with this project, and I can see me going and going with it until I’ve perfected it. Perhaps I never will, but I feel I’ve come so far in 12 weeks that I can keep going yet!
